Director of Youth Programs

The Edna Martin Christian Center (EMCC) Youth Program Director is a position serving the School Aged Youth Program of the Edna Martin Christian Center. This is a full-time, exempt position. The role of the Director of Youth Programs is to oversee the incorporation of academic enrichment,
positive youth development metrics, and service learning-oriented programming to our annual programmatic activities, which include academic remediation, Christian character development, field trips and various other social activities.

The Director will be responsible for ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for youth to learn and grow in Out of School Time (OST) settings. They will oversee and support the Youth Program Assistant Director in tasks such as staff hiring and supervision, curriculum planning and development,
budgeting and administrative tasks, program sustaining opportunities and grant reporting. The Director will also develop and sustain community and volunteer partnerships to enhance programming. The Youth Program is done with an emphasis on civic engagement, social-emotional learning and trauma- informed practices, and the Director ensures that these commitments are consistently developed and sustained in our program environment. As our programming continues to grow, the Director will support strategic planning and help determine the future direction of our work with children, youth, and their families alongside other EMCC leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Align student-based educational and social programs with academic state standards and resources to improve student outcomes.
  • Align family-based education programs with grant metrics, other applicable EMCC programs and services and the EMCC mission statement.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of student demographic information, family contact information and attendance.
  • Prepare and submit regular grant reports, this includes financial and qualitative reports.
  • Maintain all current staff and student records necessary for program licensing.
  • Ensure that the program runs in accordance with licensing and safety procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison for state licensing and grant monitoring professionals.
  • Maintain a master yearly program calendar of events and programs with planned intentional collaboration with schools and partner organizations.
  • Oversee youth program volunteers and interns by coordinating student schedules and compliance.
  • Oversee all Youth Program events and special programs in collaboration with EMCC Leadership and Operations. This includes securing facilities, media, equipment, catering and materials, supporting marketing efforts, handling registrations, constructing run-of-show, overseeing event operations and maintaining event budgets. A minimum of four events per school year should be executed.
  • Identify and disseminate monthly professional development opportunities for staff, ensuring the safety and quality of instruction and delivery of classroom practices. These can be done in alignment with regular full-staff meetings for the Youth Program team.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, and contribute to the general well-being of staff and students.
  • Facilitate regular 1:1 meetings with Youth Program Assistant Director and Site Coordinators, as well as annual all-staff performance reviews.
  • Provide direct communication to parents as needed to ensure communication is emphasized.
  • Work to publicize programming, activities and recruit prospective participants. This includes creating marketing materials, facilitating meetings with school partners, attending community events, etc.
  • Participate in regular EMCC Leadership Team meetings and applicable responsibilities and tasks resulting from such.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as required.

Complexity of Work:

Within the scope of the job, it requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work
with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, and adapt to change quickly.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Willing to obtain a professional Child and Youth Care credential within one (1) year of hire.

Required Credential(s)

  • Valid Driver’s License and have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, as demonstrated by good driving record.
  • First Aid/CPR training as required by the State of Indiana
  • Up to date Fingerprints/background check, drug screening as required by the State of Indiana
  • Computer literate (Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Work Experience:

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in youth or community services
