We’re thrilled to share that we received a national grant from USA TODAY NETWORK’s A Community Thrives initiative on June 11! A Community Thrives, which is part of the Gannett Foundation, supports non-profit organizations like ours with projects focused on community building. This grant will go to support our Community Solutions and Entrepreneurship Center. The new Center will support business development, incubate new businesses, and be a hub to help address community issues.According to Maggie Goeglein, EMCC's vice president of development, “When you talk about entrepreneurship, it’s important to have a space where you can get hands-on.... Being able to put your ideas into practice, to see this concept you have come to life; it’s important to have a physical space where we can do those things.”  Click here to see the story in the Indianapolis Star.

Azariah is one of the teen workers for our summer camp program! She is a Junior at the International School of Indiana and hopes to study International Business and Architecture when she graduates. She heard about the position from Gina Fears, where they both attend New Era Baptist Church, and this is Azariah’s first summer with EMCC. When asked why she wanted to spend her time with us these next few months she shared, “I decided to work here because I am really interested in working with kids, I am a teacher’s assistant most of the time for my summer camp and I have done it for Global Prep Academy for a few Spanish classes. I enjoy being a leader and showing kids what to be when they grow up and to be a role model for everyone. It really pushes me to my limits on how to discipline kids and to show them what’s right and what’s wrong.” #HumansofMartindaleBrightwood #EMCCShareYourStory
